Parenthood Making It Difficult To Get Your Workouts In? How To Stay Fit When You Have Kids

by Luis Williams

It's hard enough to find the time to work-out, but when you have children, it can be downright impossible. You not only need to work around your schedule, you also need to work around theirs. Not only that, but you need to find child care for them, especially if they're still young, or you don't have older children who are able to tend to their younger siblings. Before you throw in the towel, and give up on the idea of working out until you're an empty-nester, here are four suggestions that will let workout while you still have young kids.

Join a Kid-Friendly Gym

If you can't seem to find the time to work out now that you have kids, it's time to find a kid-friendly gym. Kid-Friendly gyms provide things like childcare, junior workout classes for the slightly older kids, and mini-classes that parents can take with their younger children. Joining a kid-friendly gym will ensure that you can get your workout in, without worrying about schedules.

Trade Childcare with Other Parents

If you have other friends with children who are experiencing the same problem, you can get your workout in by trading childcare with other parents. Trading childcare will ensure that each of you have the opportunity to spend time at the gym, without worrying about your kids. This type of arrangement works by each parent taking turns watching the children, while the rest of the group heads to the gym for a much-needed workout.

Take Advantage of Nap Time

If your kids are young enough to nap while they're in a stroller, it's time to take advantage of nap time. You can put your little one in their jogging stroller, and head out for a jog around the park. When your little one wakes up, you can stretch some other muscles while you're playing in the park. This is also another way to get together with other parents of young children. You can form a jogging club, which will allow all of you to get together for exercise and play time.

Make it a Family Affair

If you want to make sure that your kids learn the importance of exercise, turn your workouts into a family affair. Spend time each day working out as a family. This can include walks or runs in the park, water aerobics classes at the local community center, or other activities designed to keep you fit.
